So you’re moving, huh? I get it; this is an incredibly stressful time. There is so much on your plate, and you are worried about everything going smoothly and successfully getting to your new home or apartment. Don’t worry, I’ve been there! The bad news is that not everything will go smoothly, but the good news is that you will successfully move, and everything will be okay. I wanted to put together some tips that will help you feel a bit more confident about moving and will hopefully save you some time, money, and effort.
My first tip for you is to obtain quotes from at least 3 different moving companies. That is if you are planning on hiring some sort of help for moving your stuff. If you’re on a budget, there are ways to successfully move your stuff from one place to another for a bit cheaper, but it does require a lot more effort on your part. If you are planning on hiring help, then make sure to do proper research and have a look around at prices from several different companies. This way, you can compare prices and services from each individual company to get the best deal. After all, America is a capitalist nation. Let’s let the competitive market do its thing! Also, make sure that the company you decide on is licensed and insured. There are also a lot of helpful questions you can ask when interviewing movers to make sure you are picking the right one. For instance, it is beneficial to see what kind of things are covered by their insurance (Full value protection or released value protection) and to see if they have references available or reviews from previous customers.
Another tip is to plan adequately for packing. One helpful trick is to use as many original boxes as you can when packing things like your coffee makers, appliances, TVs, and other bigger items. This will make it easy to identify your items while they are being moved and packed. Having large amounts of packing supplies on hand will also aid in the moving process. You don’t want to skimp on the proper amounts of bubble wrap or packing tape; after all, this is your stuff, be careful with it! One suggestion is to take pictures of your items before moving them, especially if you are hiring movers to help you. That way, if something breaks, you can show the moving company that your belongings were safe and sound before the movers got their hands on them. Packing supplies like packing peanuts or bubble wrap is also super important to make sure that your fragile items are staying safe.
