Moving in the Summer

This year I have been apart of more moving parties than I ever have before.  The current situation is going strong but people are moving from home to home like crazy.  This is most likely because the lending rates for mortgages are at an all-time low and that housing prices are pretty high. So people are selling their homes and moving into bigger and better ones for nearly the same cost on the loan.  What this has done is left me with way too much knowledge on how to move people as this is my third time in a month.  Yes, that will likely never happen again, but I did learn some things by doing it and helping family and friends out.  So I want to share those things with you.

The first thing is to make sure you have all the supplies on hand that you need.  This sounds pretty easy but I have found many friends don't have the things they need and they are not prepared to move when we come over.  So I guess I should say tell your moving party to have everything packed up before the movers get there.  This is key because no one can move if nothing is ready.  This means that you need to have all the packaging supplies on hand before people arrive and all your things need to be in those boxes.  It really is only respectful to everyone that is showing up especially with the pandemic.  If everything is packed it is so much easier for people to grab things and still be socially distance.  It doesn't matter if you are worried about pandemic or not but many other people are and they also have relatives that they don't want to end up spreading the virus to.  So this is a really important thing to keep in mind this year and maybe moving forward.  It is not cool to offend friends or put worry on their plates while they are actually helping you out.  So think ahead and work ahead. If you have to delay your move, then delay and get things packed up.

The next thing is literally to shop or have friends bring extra packaging supplies. I have run into it a bunch of times where I wished I had a tape or a marker or even a new box to put things in.  Plus it really is handy to show up to a moving party with extra things that are helpful.  Many people get really stressed during this time and it is nice to be able to provide answers to questions or problems that stress them out more.  Now this one is a bit crazy but totally worth it.

Bring a cooler and fill it with drinks.  If it is your house that is moving this is a nice thing to do, but if you are a guest helper then it is a really cool gift to everyone.  People don't think about drinks and this can help with part of it by giving people an individual bottles or cans of caffeinated beverages.  Also, snacks really do help. Lots of energy can be expended and you want happy healthy people lifting things.  So a little snack and staying hydrated really are a big help. Hope these tips help, happy moving!
